I research and write on questions in end-of-life law and ethics, including what it means to "age well" and "die well", the definition of death, medical aid in dying, and advance care planning.  While I focus on law and policy questions, I am also interested in medical humanities and what memoirs of dying can teach us about the dying process.

I received a PhD in Philosophy from Duke University in 2025, and a J.D. from Duke in 2017, specializing in health law and policy. My dissertation was titled "Dying Well and the Role of Palliative Care." In 2021 I was a Visiting Scholar at the Hastings Center.
